Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Reserve: Which Fits Your Spending?

Choose between the Chase Sapphire cards by comparing recurring value—not only the welcome offer.

This comparison uses only published records in the CreditCardCompanion database. A missing field remains visibly under review rather than being estimated. Offers, eligibility, merchant coding, redemption values, and benefits can change.

Start with recurring value

Estimate annual rewards from purchases you already expect to make. Add only benefits that replace normal spending, then subtract the annual fee. Do not count a restricted credit at face value merely because it is advertised.

Check opportunity cost

Compare each card with the best realistic alternative already available to you. A higher earning rate may not overcome a fee, booking restriction, spending cap, or redemption limitation. Conversely, a useful protection or naturally used credit can matter even when it is difficult to express as cash.

Separate Year 1 from renewal years

A welcome offer can change the first-year result but should not be used to justify every later annual fee. Review recurring value again before renewal and confirm the current offer separately.

Verify before acting

Open each linked card profile and follow its issuer destination for current terms. Then use the card comparison tool, annual-fee calculator, and welcome-offer tracker with your own assumptions. CreditCardCompanion does not predict approval and does not require bank credentials.
